Making decisions about the care of others brings up emotional and personal challenges.  When your loved one needs more care than can be provided at home or in an assisted living how do you decide on the next level of care, a nursing home?  What’s most important?  Is it a location that makes it convenient for you to visit?  Is it the quality of of care provided by the community?  Are you realistic about the level and type of care your loved one needs?  Can you imagine the situation 6 or even 12 months from now?  How will care needs increase or change?  Are you willing to moved your loved one again?  These are all incredibly difficult questions and difficult to see when you’re in a situation where emotions are high.  I often help individuals going through this process because it’s easier for me to see immediate and long term needs and support families in making the best decision for their loved one.
