Wilson consults throughout the United States with families managing and coordinating eldercare and with law firms as an expert witness. She also speaks and educates. Her expertise in these areas is grounded in twenty-five years of advising families and caregivers, providing direct services, educating, public speaking, and serving as an expert witness in complex situations for both plaintiffs and defendants.

Her professional experience, specifically as a fiduciary and care manager, is as a business owner. For more than 18 years, this included care coordination across clinical and social care settings, as well as the provision of direct care services.

As a care manager and a professional fiduciary, she hired, managed, and monitored standards of care for clients and wards living in or receiving services from nursing homes, memory care facilities, assisted living communities, adult day care, home health, non-medical home health, and personal home care organizations.

Her legal and fiduciary appointments were for adults diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer’s, brain injuries, the elderly, and persons born with intellectual disabilities.

Because of her fiduciary responsibility and accountability for all aspects of a client or ward’s care, her experience crosses acute and post-acute care settings and situations specific to negligence, breach of duty, patient rights, and elder abuse, including financial exploitation, neglect, and self-neglect.

Her extensive experience in care management for older adults includes evaluating situations, creating and implementing care plans, navigating family relationships, healthcare, financial, and legal matters. She works with general and business law firms, as well as firms specializing in family law, estate planning, elder law, probate, and personal injury, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.

Expertise Witness Services Based on Experience

A tireless advocate for older adults and their families, she is an expert witness who provides expert witness consulting, expert witness report writing, and expert witness testimony related to caregiving, home care, care management, and the legal responsibilities of guardians, agents under power of attorney, and trustees.

While some experts’ experience results from educational or scholarly work, Ms. Wilson’s expert witness caregiving and related work are founded in practical application. Her legal and fiduciary appointments include Guardianship (58), Conservatorship (2), Medical POA (28), Financial POA (21), Trustee (4), Care Management and Assessments (more than 125), and Personal Representative of the Estate (9). She is well-versed in reviewing state statutes nationwide related to guardianship, conservatorship, and power of attorney.

The number of appointments above is Colorado-based. For context, Colorado does not appoint a single professional to serve as guardian and conservator due to concerns about the risk of overreach and conflict of interest in managing health and financial matters. As a result, Ms. Wilson built her expertise as a guardian and accepted appointments as a financial power of attorney and trustee.

Many of these appointments resulted from the identification of cognitive diseases like dementia or Alzheimer’s, serious illnesses, disabilities diagnosed at birth, elder abuse, self-neglect, financial exploitation, or contact from individuals without trusted family members seeking an experienced and trustworthy fiduciary.
