Caregiving is a skill learned by example. My mother was an amazing caregiver not only for my father and her children but for other family members. I remember going to visit grandparents and older aunts and uncles when I was younger. This was a regular weekend ritual and we would always take something small, a cake, some cookies, something as a token of love. My mother also brought sick family members into our home to care for them. Back in the early 60’s putting a family member in a nursing home was not even considered. Children today will learn from the examples they are shown. Want your children to be good caregivers for you in later life? Show them how to be good caregivers now by example with current family members or through volunteer work.
