Traditional medicine typically deals with body parts or chronic conditions with medication that masks the symptoms of the problem. Depending on the condition, an individual may see several specialists, for example, a cardiologist to treat the heart and a rheumatologist to treat arthritis. Traditional medicine rarely treats the entire body as a single system. Holistic medicine, often called naturopathy, seeks to treat the entire body. The goal is to determine the cause of the condition and treat the cause so as to change or reverse the condition. Unfortunately holistic medicine is not usually covered by traditional health insurance, however I have found it to be extremely beneficial not only for myself but for my clients.
