Healthcare is always in the news — good or bad. Because of my involvement I see both sides and want to recognize those individuals working within a system that has tied their hands. Unfortunately, many of these individuals lack the ability to go outside the system to suggest alternatives. One for example, a nurse working at a rehab facility who attempted to tell a family they must go outside to seek help in order to help their family member. She could have lost her employment by making such a suggestion but also had to be careful not to provide too much information because the family could have come back and complained if the situation did not resolve in an appropriate manner. One wonders, what is the right thing to do in these situations where families struggle and options are few?
