The internet is fast becoming the most used venue for health information. According to an article, “Logging on for a second (or third) opinion” in the Denver Post on 10/13/08, there are five broad overlapping categories for health research: general interest sites like www.WebMD.com, medical research sites like PubMed at www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed, patient sites like www.epatients.net, disease specific sites like www.cancer.org and web tools like destination RS, www.drx.com for competing drug prices. Many just diagnosed patients today, perform online research before deciding on treatment. This is just the beginning of a new wave of self directed consumer care where physicians are no longer treated as gods.
